I am looking to test games as a volunteer for experience but would prefer to work from home because I am currently a student but i have plenty of time to spend testing games.

Go seek out beta testing opportunities. That's what "volunteer testing" pretty much is.

I have to disagreeYellow. My first job was as a tester, and there is a great deal more structure to the effort than just being a beta tester (which as far as I know generally means beta user). Executing test plans, understanding the various types of testing (ad hoc, combinatorial, automated. etc...), and being responsible to management are all parts of the process that I wouldn't expect to find/learn in a widespread beta program. Strain67, since you don't care about pay (I assume you want to build experience for paying work later), consider helping out an open source game project. There are tons of open source games that wouldn't be worth your time. You'll need to find one that is being run by a person (or people) who is devoted -- and perhaps more importantly, has professional experience. You'll have a lot to learn and it won't do you any good to run errands for a fifteen year old kid. Here are two links to open source games. I don't know anything much about either project, except that their maintainers have been around Ogre's forums long enough that I can recall the name of their project offhand.
